Our lab-grown diamond quality

Our leading technology means our lab-grown diamonds are among the highest quality you can find. All Lightbox lab-grown diamonds over 0.20 carats are inscribed within the stone with our mark of quality. This laser inscription is invisible to the naked eye, but signifies that each Lightbox stone has met the internationally recognized standards of the '4 C's' as described below.

Please note, the following technical specifications apply to Lightbox and Lightbox Finest™ stones, but does not include Lightbox Basics™ stones.

Cut

About diamond cut

The cut of a diamond determines its brilliance, how much its facets interact with light and sparkle.  Cut does not refer to the shape of a diamond, but instead grades how perfectly the stone has been cut into it's shape. The better the symmetry, proportioning and polish of a diamond, the higher its cut grade.

Lightbox's cut quality

Every Lightbox lab-grown diamond has been measured as 'Very Good', and our Lightbox Finest™ stones are ‘Excellent’, offering exceptional brilliance and fire. In fact, our production process means that we grow our stones to be the optimal size and shape for cutting, maximizing the sparkle each stone can offer.

Carat

About diamond carat weight

Carat indicates the weight of a diamond, not the size. This means carat weight can appear differently depending on diamond shape. On its own, carat weight is not a good indicator of the overall standard of a diamond. A stone could have a high carat weight but little brightness or sparkle if not combined with high quality cut, clarity and color.

Lightbox's carat pricing

At Lightbox, all our lab-grown diamonds are priced at 800 USD per carat, or 1500 USD for our Lightbox Finest™ stones. Because each batch of our lab-grown diamonds is produced to our exact standards, this means we can transparently price our carat weight in a linear way. In natural diamond pricing, the price goes up exponentially when a larger weight is combined with high-quality cut, color, and clarity, as this increases the rarity of a stone. In lab-grown diamonds, this rarity is removed, meaning we can price our stones in a more affordable way -  no matter the carat weight.

Clarity

About diamond clarity

Lab-grown diamond clarity is the assessment, under 10x magnification, of the small imperfections within the stone. These imperfections are known as inclusions or internal characteristics. Inclusions can obstruct a diamonds ability to refract and return light -- so the poorer the clarity, the less a diamond will sparkle.

Lightbox clarity grading

Every Lightbox lab-grown diamond has been measured as VS or VVS for our Lightbox Finest™ stones. This means the stone has only minor inclusions that cannot be seen by the naked eye, and are difficult to see at 10x magnification.

The Lightbox internal inscription is an intentional mark of quality that does not contribute to our grade of the stone, and can only be seen with magnification.

Color

About diamond color

Color grading actually assesses the lack of color in a white lab-grown diamond. In nature, most white diamonds have a slight tint of yellow. The closer to being ‘colorless’ the stone is, the rarer it is and therefore the more valuable it is.

Lightbox's color grading

Every white Lightbox lab-grown diamond has been measured as ‘near colorless’. This is technically defined as between G and J and means that only a trained gemologist can detect a trace of color.  Our Lightbox Finest™ stones are ‘colorless’ D,E,F - the highest color grades a stone can be.

Our leading technology also means that we can create lab-grown diamonds in brilliant colors that are extremely rare and valuable when found in nature. Lightbox's pink and blue stones are formulated to offer a consistently beautiful saturation of color.
