Meet the Moms!

Meet the Moms!

There's no better way to celebrate Mother's Day than with a super-sweet shoot with Portland-based photographer Paige Jones. We loved meeting these Oregon mamas and seeing how they styled their Lightbox sparkle.

Scroll down to see these amazing moms doing their love thing. We also got some of them to share their wisdoms on motherhood.

P.s. If you’re wondering ‘why Portland?’, then we have some good news!  A new Element Six plant is being built there right now, meaning that starting next year our Lightbox lab-grown diamonds will be made in the USA. If you’re interested in updates, you can sign up to our newsletter here.

What has surprised you about motherhood?

No matter how frustrated, upset, exhausted you are with your child, you love them more and more each day. Unconditional love.

What do you most look forward to doing with your kids?

I look forward to having my son help me cook in the kitchen, or just hear him tell me how yummy something I cook is if he takes after his father.

What’s your favorite song to dance to with your kid?

Zoom by the Commodores (Yes my baby is old-school at heart).

What’s your favorite family tradition?

Enzo has already been exposed to one family tradition by going to take photos with Santa every year.

What's your favorite thing to do all by yourself?

Although I have limited time by myself, I enjoy reading biographies and controversial books.

Do you take time to celebrate yourself? If so, how?

I try to take time for myself by having a "self-care" day every now and then. Face masks, home pedi & mani, India-arie playing in the background. I truly believe everyone deserves a "self-care" day or time to themselves because mental health is so important.

What do you want for Mother’s Day?

For Mother's Day I simply want to see my son smiling, happy and loving on his Mama. Although breakfast in bed would be nice too.

What has surprised you about motherhood?

There are so many surprises about motherhood. Incessant learnings. Continual insights into myself, how I react with my children, how I try to teach them... failing often is humbling. But one of the biggest surprises was how empowering giving birth was.  It’s almost like you're a superhero.  Every time a friend has a new baby I am reminded of how amazing motherhood is right out of the gate.

What do you most look forward to doing with your kids?

I cannot wait to do more big trips and holidays with my kids. I hope they yearn for adventure and travel as I do, that they are constantly inquisitive and curious of the world and it’s diversity. They are growing out of their baby stage, becoming more independent (sometimes) and gaining a better understanding of the world - I want to take them everywhere and show them everything, some that I have seen and other adventures we all share for the first time.

What’s your favorite song to dance to with your kid?

We do dance parties almost every night. Or when they just need to get their wiggles out. They request Prince a lot. (Which makes me very happy.). They also like “Scorpio” by Air, to which they do impressive robot dancing to. We’ve watched some “World of Dance” together which inspires some pretty crazy moves recently....

What's your favorite thing to do all by yourself?

Getting the chance to take a long interrupted shower still feels like the biggest treat. Especially if no one is yelling “MOM!” by the time I get out.

What do you want for Mother’s Day?

I would love not planning any meals or cleaning anything-  but that’s like asking for the stars. Ha!

What’s the one thing your kid has done that made you laugh the most?

Without fail in the middle of gymnastics class she’ll go into the middle of the circle and drop it's like it hot. Twerking at 18 months. Lord help me!

What has surprised you most about motherhood?

The unpredictability of little humans but also how much your heart expands when you see that little cutie exploring their way through life.

What’s your favorite song to dance to with your kids?

Hmmmm, anything Regatone. Maybe that’s where Gia learned to drop it like it's hot. 😂

What’s your favorite thing to do all by yourself?

Lift weights! It’s my time to think about myself which doesn’t happen very often in motherhood.

Do you take the time to celebrate yourself? If so, how?

Working out in the morning before Gia wakes up. Meditating at least 3 times a week and writing small goals for myself each day. Business, personal, and family related. It keeps me grounded with all the unpredictability that motherhood throws at us.

What’s a thing your kid has done that made you laugh the most?

When my boys shared a room I use to love to hear the conversations they’d have with each other before they’d fall asleep. Hilarious and random discussions of superhero’s or what they did at school/daycare . From the perspective of a 4 year old and an 8 year old . Two little old men bantering . Sometimes Liam would burst out in song and sing Darius to sleep.

What do you most look forward to doing with your kids?

Simple moments like cooking Sunday brunch together . And snuggling in bed watching a movie or reading a bedtime story together.

What’s your favorite song to dance to with your kid?

Benny and the Jets by Elton John

What’s your favorite family tradition?

Getting together with family near and far during the holidays for dinner.

Do you take time to celebrate yourself? If so, how?

Self care - Yoga , acupuncture, massage

What do you want for Mother’s Day?

A lovely handmade card from my boys!

What has surprised you about motherhood?

I’m surprised how much motherhood has elevated me in all areas of my life. I feel younger and more alive (after making it through the first 4 years of broken sleep!) and excited to take on new challenges.

What’s your favorite family tradition?

My favorite family tradition is our daily “cat walks.” We decided after our cat died that we wouldn’t get another pet so we walk through our beautiful neighborhood and visit a few cats we know. We get time to talk and unwind from the day and play with some loving animals who greet us with big meows.

Do you take time to celebrate yourself? If so, how?

I celebrate myself regularly through my mindset and by doing work I love. I surround myself and spend time with people who inspire me, make me laugh, are kind and know how to celebrate life too. And I splurge on travel!

What’s a thing your kid has done that made you laugh the most?

The insane things that come out of their mouth-especially when they are repeating something I have said not knowing they were listening at the time. My youngest daughters first phrase learned and repeated: "oh shit". She said this after she dropped her Nutella covered toast on the ground. My husband and I could not contain our burst of laughter...the way she said it was so cute! Note to all mothers....they may not always listen to us but they sure as heck hear what we are saying AT ALL TIMES.

My older daughter does the best impression of Miranda Sings that gets me laughing even when I'm feeling super grumpy.

What has surprised you about motherhood?

I never imagined that my children would be my best teachers. They are a constantly reminding me to re-align my values, stay true to myself and walk my talk. They have taught me how to fully love myself so I can fully love them so they can fully love themselves. Also, how incredibly difficult and rewarding some moments can be.

What do you most look forward to doing with your kids?

Spontaneous dance parties, eating out and believe it or not, I love traveling with my girls. It is so fun to see them experience life's treasures that are found when we leave our safe little bubble. I also love love love cooking with them. I have a huge love for food-making it and eating it. It's something I want them to carry on. Being in the kitchen with me, making Persian food, is the best way to keep them connected to our heritage.

What’s your favorite song to dance to with your kid?

We love dancing to Rolex by Ayo and Teo and WOW by Post Malone. The truth is my girls listen to the music I listen to. And they like to GET DOWN...like I do. If they hear a bad word, the deal is they can't repeat it unless they are by themselves in their room. So far its worked!

What’s your favorite family tradition?

Hands down family dinners. We have them at least 3 times a week. This is a must for us. We have our "family meetings" during our sit down dinners. Absolutely no devices aloud at the table. We congratulate each other on wins, talk about areas we need to improve on and then come up with something fun to do together. They girls open up so much during these dinners. We always tell them " you can tell us anything and as long as you tell the truth, you will never get it trouble. We can come up with a solution and natural consequence together". Most of the time, the consequences they come up with are more extreme than what we would enforce!

What's your favorite thing to do all by yourself?

Go to Breitenbush hot springs near Central Oregon and spend as much time as I can in the silent pool. This place is my medicine. On a regular basis, I love to meditate, read and write by myself. Oh and a good sunrise paddle board session in the summer is pure bliss.

Do you take time to celebrate yourself? If so, how?

ABSOLUTELY. I celebrate myself through dance. When I dance, my body releases ALL the mom guilt, self doubt and pressure I put on myself. The more I move my body the more I learn to love it and celebrate  all that I am as a woman. I always tell my girls, I am all things woman. As a mother I need time with you, as a wife I need my time with your dad, and as a woman I need time with my best lady friends who lift me up. Every year I host a Woman's Only party at my house where we dance all night and let loose. Mom life can be a lot of fun:)

What do you want for Mother’s Day?

Breakfast made by my lovies. Hand written notes and time with my girls and my mom. A nice piece of jewelry wouldn't hurt either:)
